The process of decentralisation i.e. devolving part of the authorizations of the central government to the units of local self-government in the Republic of Macedonia starts Friday.
According to the detailed plan of transfer of competencies and resources in decentralisation process 489 institutions and close to 27.000 employees, 400.000 square meters of buildings and other facilities and 2.5 million square meters of yard area should be transferred from central to local level.
There will also be transfer of employees from education, culture, social care and fire fighting units.
The total debt of the municipalities amounts to 42 million Euro and the largest amount of the money should be returned by themselves.
Ministry of Local Self-Government says that the first step is the fiscal decentralisation for which all preconditions are fulfilled.
The start of the decentralisation process will be symbolically marked in Bitola where PM Vlado Buckovski will hold talks with mayors members of the Managing Board of the Units of Local Self-Government.
